Hello Friends, today is a pretty simple topic, being alive and being happy.
What a thought eh? But why is this such a big deal to me? Well I think it mostly comes from the fact that a lot of my ideas tend to have a dark undertone of sorts, And I think sometimes, especially with my own history, it's important to look at life and reflect on everything you have going for you. I get caught up at times with everything that I don't have, and yeah, I get into a slump about things. But the reality is, I've got a lot going on these days and a lot to look forward to as well. School has been a great learning experience for me, work has been good as well although I am thinking of looking for new opportunities. I have the ability to go as far as I want to go with my creativity and my craft, and I plan to go as far as possible and beyond. I don't want to become ruled by my fears, doubts and insecurities.
I've got a lot ahead of me these next weeks as I aim to complete 22 pages of my very own first independent comic book, Brewgatory! It's exciting and fun project, but it's a lot of work! For anyone who has ever tackled this, I am in awe of your power! And for those who are thinking about doing one, by all means go for it, just know that it is a dedication, you can't half ass this one. I am missing out on a lot of social gatherings and outings, but I know this is the only thing that makes any sense to me, there's nothing more important for me. And when you find your passion, you have to go all in.
I am still waiting to hear back from a certain comic book convention that takes place at the end of the summer, but here is hoping I can get a spot on the floor. This would be the first time on my own at a show, but with the experiences I've had with my friends and brothers in the comic book art scene I aim to take everything I've learned and make my mark in this business. I am not the prettiest, not the flashiest, but God damn it I plan to be a part of this world! Come hell or high water, I am going to be a comic book artist!
So to you mt dear friend, if you are living with depression or anxiety or any mental health problems, take it from me. You are not your mental health, it is a part of you but it is not what defines you. And even though some days it is harder than others, fight, fight with everything you've got and create something incredible. I know you can do it.
Until then, keep chasing the Storm.

Giveaway Ideas
Hey guys, Stormy here and I wanted to give y'all a heads up here on my giving away project that I was working on. Okay, so here is the deal. I've got a lot of things on the table to give away, a lot of comic books and DVD's and even a few CD's...if you kids want them. And knowing that many people will want them, I need to figure out how to spread the joy. Now you may or may not know, I've had a few tables at a few different comic book conventions and you may have noticed that I haven't been on the scene for sometime now. Well I am telling you this here and I am telling you this now, the ChileanStorm is coming back!
But what about that free stuff? Well here is the thing, you want some free stuff then you've got to come by my table and say hi, and I will have a box of free things there for everyone. I might have a little bin for loonies if you want to grab more stuff. I want to try to have everyone at least get one item, but if you see stuff you really really want, by all means let me know and you can take it home.
So there you have it, now you know to come check out my little art table for some free stuff and who knows maybe some new art prints or a cool new fresh comic from yours truly. I will let you know here where and when my next shows will be, so be sure to check out the page often and stay update with me over on my Twitter, @ChileanStorm and also on Instagram and Tumblr. Until then, keep chasing the Storm!

BLOG 4 YOU
Okay people, I've got the blog bug.
I've got a lot on my minds and a lot of ideas and I want to write them out, I want to share and talk about all the things that we love. So I wanted to ask you, yes you. What do you want me to write about? What should we talk about? Now this could be just about anything and everything, video games we love or even political issues that need to be addressed, because that is important as well. Be happy, but also be aware of the world around you. Do we want to look at and review some more comics? With me thinning out my collection, I would be looking at the best comics in my collection and some great new comic books from independent creators that you need to be reading. And trust me you, there are plenty of books I would love to recommend. I also wanted to talk Magic: The Gathering with all of you, I want to share my Commander decks, Cube ideas, Puca Trades or anything else that comes to mind about our favourite trading card game. And speaking of games, do you want to talk video games? I've been on a big retro gaming trip, especially Nintendo 64 and the original PlayStation. Basically anything is on the table, I just want to know what you want to read.
Also I wanted to use this space to talk and promote other people who are doing some great work and need to be seen. I know a lot of people who are working really hard and deserve to get a lot of attention and views. And if you know someone or are someone who wants to promote new work, by all means let me know.
So there you have it Storm Clouds, I need your help and suggestions! Leave a comment below, on Facebook or contact me on Twitter @ChileanStorm or even an email, I want to hear from you. Also it should be noted as well that me and my bestie, Toby Medeiros (@TeaEmComics) are working on a very cool new project...keep your ears open.
Until then, keep chasing the Storm.

Too Much
![]() |
Not my room but I am almost there... |
So I am going to start posting a list of items that I am looking to get rid of, not sell, giving away to a good home. But I do urge you to really think about picking up free things from me, make sure you've got the space for it. The last thing I want to do is just dump my leftovers on someone because they wanted free things. Share, just share everything with everyone. At the end of the day, you will be remembered for your actions not your stamp collection. All power to you though if you are rocking that stamp collection in 2016, you do you and keep it going.
Also for MTG Players, I am sending away a lot of my collection through Puca Trade. If you are a trader through that site, let me know what you need and if you want bulk collections of commons and uncommon cards, I would be glad to send them your way. If you want to join Puca Trade and make some trades with me, you can join here: https://pucatrade.com/invite/gift/160964
So stay tuned for plenty of free stuff and giveaways, because I am cool like that. Or maybe I am getting older and letting go, maybe both. Be sure to follow here on this page or @ChileanStorm on Twitter and Instagram, leave questions or comments below and as always, keep chasing the Storm.

Youth Impact Summit
So big news to share with everyone, tomorrow and Thursday I will taking part of the Youth Impact Summit. What is that you may ask, well let me tell you; a collection of young minds from across the province coming together to brainstorm, hear, talk about ideas to change communities. And yours truly applied a few times in the past and now I have the opportunity to take part of this big game changing opportunity. For a few years I've wanted to see what I could do to help out those who need help, be that volunteering at charity events or donate clothing or food. And now I can learn how to take that energy to the next level, and I am super excited for this experience.
For those reading for the first time, welcome! My name is Alvaro Cruz, or as I go by on most forms of social media, ChileanStorm. I was born in Toronto, but my family history hails from Chile, so I like to represent for Chile and all of Latin America, very proud of my roots and culture. I am an artist who is currently back in school and working part time as a barista. At the end of the day, I still need to pay my bills. I am currently working on a few personal projects like the Glass Prison and currently working on my first comic book, Brewgatory. My goal is to have a comic ready for summer 2017.
In this page here you will find a lot of entries on comic books that I've read and few opinion pieces as well. In the future entries I will probably talk more about things on my mind, the most important Nicolas Cage films and Nintendo 64 games. So if you like any of these things or just want a fun read, by all means give me a read and a follow and be sure to drop a comment if you'd like as well.
Keep chasing the storm.

Editorial: Kill'em All Dead...
There is an old saying...
"The Lord Giveth and the Lord taketh away.
Blessed be the name of the Lord."
This is Marvel comics today in a nutshell. For every Agent Carter, Avengers 2: Age of Ultron and Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, you get a company that is very fast and harsh at taking away from the fans. The first family of comics is getting axed, Wolverine is dead and X-Men books are becoming a rarity. And earlier this week I found out that the merc with a mouth is next up on the chopping block, Marvel has decided to kill Deadpool. Arguably the most popular character in comic books today, another series and character that is getting the plug pulled (or pool closed in this case...cause you know Deadpool) because movie rights. And please, just own up to it, you want all your properties back, just say it. I am sick and tired of hearing that these decisions have nothing to do with the movie properties and rights, stop pissing in my ear and telling me it's raining! Marvel is ruining years of stories and characters, for what? Another million on top of that billion dollar box office sales. For crying out loud, Ant-Man is going make you a million dollars! The guy who rides ants is going to make you money! But fuck it, what do fans know? What do I know? I bought AXIS...all nine issues. If disappointment was made into a comic book.
And this is also coming off the news of a Deadpool movie announcement, filming will be in Vancouver later on this year and according to sources, Ryan Reynolds is back as the loud mouth assassin! That is really cool, if they can confirm a rated R rating, I think we can safely say that we will be set.
Marvel has revealed as well what is going to be going on in the upcoming Secret Wars event. Think multiple universes brought into one world, every single version of all of our favourite heroes, and then they all duke it out until one remains. Like Highlander, there can only be one! Like Royal Rumble, 30 men in the ring and only one gets to main event at Wrestlemania (Let's go Cesaro)! Or like my personal favourite, Lemongrab...
Here is hoping that I am wrong, that this is all smoke and mirrors to a bigger plot secret. While I am not exactly counting down the days to be reading Secret Wars, I will probably be picking it up as it comes out, mainly on pure curiosity of the whole show. Who knows, it could be a beautiful oblivion. And I can guarantee you that it won't be anywhere near as bad as AXIS, you can't even try to be worst. When I read a comic as rushed and as messy as AXIS, trust me, I will let you know. In the meantime, Remender, quit your day job or go back to writing Uncanny X-Force...that was actually a pretty awesome team.
So I don't know about you, but this bitter sweet pill is getting harder to swallow. But hey, maybe I am old. Perhaps a bit jaded. Or both. Regardless, let me know what you think about the news from Marvel this week, what did you think about all this? Also Deadpool fans, if you've got the Marvel App on your smartphone, they have the first issue of Deadpool Kills Deadpool up for FREE. A really fun and bloody good time, and at no costs a great time to go back and read it up! Going to be drawing a lot this weekend, I am also looking for more work in general. Things are looking bleak if we are talking about my bank account and all the money that isn't there. But I am going to be fine, come hell or high water, I am going to find a way through all of this. Thanks for taking the time to read this up, until the next one, keep chasing the storm.

Editorial: Excelsior to the Nuts
You create some incredible characters, an amazing legacy, hire the best artist in the industry and even give us an incredibly detailed movie universe. And we thank you for it with tons and tons of our hard earned cash. No one needs to buy comic books, we want to buy comic books. So then, why are you so quick to give your loyal fan base a constant kick in the groin? The big dump you took on us this week was the big reveal in AXIS issue 7, with Magneto and his kids, the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Apparently Marvel wanted to pull a Maury, because Magneto is not the father! Wait. What? Are you meaning to tell me that House of M means squat now? And what about Tommy (Speed) and Billy (Wiccan)? The Children's Crusade was one of my favourite stories Marvel ever released, the idea of these characters all coming together to create a family was a beautiful moment. So does that even matter anymore? At this point I am waiting for the kids to be revealed as an imaginary essence of Wanda's psyche, the knife is already in the heart, you might as well finish the job. And I am honestly puzzled as hell about this. Because Marvel is destroying a lot of comics in an effort to have all the movie rights back in their hands, but it is us, the loyal comic book fans who get to suffer for it.
So in an attempt to separate the twins from the X-Men universe, Marvel thought it would be great to have Magneto not their father and now we will find out the twins will possibly not be mutants. Because instead of House of M ending in self sacrifice, we will now have Wanda commit an absolute hate crime of pure genocide. Hurray. But why do all this? For the movies, duh. Because you can't have a guy who might be mildly interested in buying comics after watching Avengers 2, pick up the books and not understand how these two could be mutants but not be on an X-Men related team. Because his possible three dollars is worth more then all the Young Avengers fan base. Absolute horse shit. Who gives a fuck if the movies and comics are different worlds? In the ultimate universe they made the twins with hints of incest, but whatever it's another universe, they can do what they want. But not anymore, Marvel is going to try and create a prime universe. I am slicing my wrist with excitement. The idea of resetting all the books is an absolute nightmare. But think about all the new readers? What new readers? What about the loyal fan base that made you? When I started collecting comics for real I was about 12 maybe 13 years old, not sure, but my first book was Daredevil issue 323, part five of the Fall From Grace story. My point is, this wasn't Daredevil issue one. I really loved the DD episode in the Spider-man cartoon, the idea of a devil kicking ass and doing it while blind was so badass for my young mind, I wanted more of this guy. I started Daredevil in the 90's, it took me a few years to go back and find the classic work from Stan Lee, then the incredible work by Frank Miller and so forth. My point is no one was waiting on me to reset books so I could start on #1 and be able to understand what's going on, tons of comic book fans just started because they loved comics, the heroes and the villains and everything that comes with comic books. The fans who have dedicate so much are the people Marvel and DC Comics should be concerned about.

So that's what I think, and I really hope someone at Marvel, even an intern or something takes the time and reads this, just hoping this will make some kind of noise. And I suggest everyone to let Marvel or DC Comics know how you feel about the current state of comics, by letting your opinions be known and/or by purchasing power, which many would say is the best way to go about it. But what do you guys think about everything that is going on? Let me know and let the big two know as well. That's all the time I've got for now, thank you for reading and keep chasing the storm!

Black Holes Over A*#holes!
The best way to describe the current relationship between comic book fans and the two big companies in comics is a pretty simple one when I think about it. You ever remember threatening your parents that you were going to run away from home? You would grab the box of cookies, three juice boxes and your favourite toys and tell them you were done with their crap and you were going to live a life free of their oppressive state. In most case, the parents would tell you to cut the crap and wash your hands for dinner, but if you were brave enough to leave and play in the park for an hour, your parents knew you would be back home in no time. That is what we have here today with comics. And you can see this from both Marvel and DC Comics, they can cancel series at a whim and/or completely destroy any beloved character you hold dear to your heart, you know why? Because you will be back. I f*cking hated DC Comics for relaunching everything, but I own at least five #1 issue of several series. And I absolutely despise Marvel for what they did to Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver! And for what? A movie that is going to make millions even if they left these characters alone. Going to get more on that tomorrow. My point is though, we keep coming back. It's a very abusive relationship we have here, for the little they give, they are allowed to take anything they want from us. And where else can we go? Where you ask? Indi-f*cking-pendent! Seriously guys, there is tons of incredible comics that you have no idea about, go to artist alley and find these books, go online and follow these great stories. But you have to be willing to change the channel and take a chance on all these artist and writers who deserve you time and money.
"But you always review big two comics?"
...point. And I am going to change that today!
So I decided to do different books everyday, and in that rotation will be indy comics as well. So you will get some classic or old stuff from Marvel and DC Comics, and I can mix that up with Image and Dark Horse comics as well, but then always do a new indy book or series. To represent from those who really deserve the spotlight. And today I am going to start with one of my current favourite series that is going on, the sci-fi adventure, Black Hole Hunters Club!
The latest issue of Black Hole Hunters Club is issue 5, and with the first four you get to meet the entire cast of BHHC, a wide range of strange and down right gross looking aliens, all working together on a common goal and an overdue space bar tab. You always see what has happened to the father of Lars and Hector, a character who had a really good build up in the first issues, so it made an impact when he finally showed up and well...he was kind of a dick. But why? Well that is the question. But in issue 5, we got the brother and Liliam trekking through a forest when Lars suddenly finds a really kick ass bug. Like the coolest little dude ever, seriously. But then they get caught, shit. Not to worry though because the action isn't far away and we get to Lars use his transformation powers again in a really awesome way and we see Hector fry the crap out of some dick head frog, wicked stuff.
While the issues aren't big, they get to the point. And why not? Who cares how much Trevor has been drinking on his way to the space supermarket? The story doesn't drag on, the pace is steady with plenty of humour and action, it's extremely refreshing to see this in a comic. If I have to make a complaint though, I still feel even with the larger cast that Hector and Lars (especially Lars, he's fucking awesome) steal the show. The others characters haven't really stood out as well yet, but there are plenty more issues to come and fix this problem anyway. And I guess one thing also, I wish the bad guys survived a little bit more to be developed, but hey you can always have magic zombies from outer space. Seriously bring back a stitch headed Prince Human from issue one, that would be sick! Aside from that, I can't stress how badly you guys need to start reading Black Hole Hunters Club! If you see Ricky Lima or Shane Heron at any of these shows, get the books! If you get a lot of them, Shane will draw you anything. And I hear he enjoys drawing a lot of the characters from My Little Pony. True story.
Down below I will give you some links to see more of both these guys and also where you can find these guys next.
So there you have it guys, now you know one series and creators to start following. It is about time we take back control of our hobbies and of the things we love, comics is no different. We have two guys here who work their asses off to make some great unique comics and will continue to do so, they have tons of other stories and comics as well. Both helped out in the Monstrosity anthology comic and Ricky just released Deep Sea, with art from one of my favourite guys in the scene, Dave Bishop. Honestly if I can be anywhere near as good as these guys I will be happy, all of them inspire me to be the best comic creator I can be. But that's all I got for now guys, got to get some sleep. Been pretty consistent though eh? Until then, keep chasing the storm!

Desu DC Comics!
Comics are so cool! Wow! Sparkles!
...that's me trying to be an anime character. Or the stereotypical anime character I guess.
So not sure if you know or not, but DC Comics a few years back released a few really cool anime style statues and mini statues as well. All the classic female heroes and villains that we have known over the years got redesigns that in my opinion looked really good, especially Poison Ivy and Catwoman. These became very popular, practically every DC girl had one made and even Christmas variants were made, so the next logical step would be a comic book right? That's right, and enter Ame-Comi Girls!
To be honest, I didn't know this even existed! So I was really surprised to find a few issues at a discount price available. I liked the designs on the characters, so there was enough curiosity for me to take a crack at this series and see what it's all about. be honest, I didn't know this even existed! So I was really surprised to find a few issues at a discount price available. I liked the designs on the characters, so there was enough curiosity for me to take a crack at this series and see what it's all about.
Before I start I should point out that this particular issue of Ame-Comi Girls is part two of a four part storyline. And since I am missing that issue, no doubt there are things I may not have picked up on or missed out some key elements. So we start this issue with Power Girl fighting Star Sapphire for the heart of Jimmy Olsen. I really wish I was making this up. That's right, two of the sexiest women in the DC comic universe are fighting over the Krusty Burger teen of Metropolis. What?! As a comic book geek, I have read a lot crazy stuff over the years, I've seen Batman spray his blood over Gotham as a cure for a fear toxin, I've seen Colossus murder Psylocke with a car and I've read Ultimatum. And even after all that, this still takes the wedding cake. In the comics defence, they made Jimmy look like a handsome man and not some dorky part timer kid. But still! I mean the very idea that this taking place is really jumping the shark for me! But it's only the first four pages, let's see where we go next.
Okay so Sapphire tosses Power Girl out in space, and Power Girl starts to lose oxygen...wait what? Is this a thing? I thought she was Kryptonian. Google break. So yeah, apparently some writers make note that she has to take a deep breath before flying through space. And now we know. But luckily for Power Girl she is rescued by Green Lantern, more specifically Jade! Who equipped with alert hearing headphones which alerted her to Power Girls danger. Huh? This universe though, right? So anyway, they go back down to Earth, save Jimmy and take the power source of Star Sapphire. End of comic, go home and rejoice? Nope, here comes Atom! Power Girl brings here in to help Supergirl, who has been infected by black kryptonite. And that black kryptonite takes form of Brainiac, in the insides of Supergirl. So with fighting going on inside and outside, Atom manages to shrink the kryptonite out of her system. After that takes place we get a lengthy back story to the main villain in this arc, Sinestra! And this makes this book even more of a head scratcher, we see the black power ring taking over Sinestra as she attacks different plants before being stopped and arrested by the Green Lantern Corps, only to escape years later with the yellow power ring. And now she has taken control of both fear and death power rings and is out for revenge. Again, what?

I didn't want that to come off harshly, but sometimes you got to lay the smack-down, even on cute looking super heroes. But maybe I am not seeing something here or maybe I am right, regardless leave a comment below and join the conversation. I got to get going though, be back tomorrow for another comic book review here at Storm Watch, until then keep chasing the storm!

Needless to say a lot of time that I would have spent on my blogs are going to be placed into hours and hours here at the shop. I've got a lot to take care of here this month, but I promise to back on schedule with blogs.

No Big Deal...
![]() |
I am not saying these are old ideas but... |
Honestly, my first thought is, well that would have been an amazing reveal. Now that magic is lost for news and publicity. Is it worth it? Probably. They make news to bring in new readers, not this Chilean geek who goes to the comic book stores like it's church. And honestly, I get that. So while it sucks to have surprises revealed, it's not going to make me any less of a comic book fan.
So what of the characters and the new roles that have been presented...?
Thor: Why is this news? This already happened, years ago, Earth X anyone? (I review that book awhile back, click here for that review) Or even Thor Girl? And even the What If issue with Jane Foster had Mjolnir. This is something I have seen already, so it's not that big of a deal. I think it's awesome though, and she is going to be great to see kicking ass, a female character with such great power, it will be good for young female readers. As for me, I can't wait to see what kind of adventures she will be in, and also who it is holding the legendary hammer.
Captain America: Patriot anyone? Or what about the entire point of the series, Truth: Red, White & Black. Again, having an African American male take the role of Captain America is not a new idea, so long time comic book fans shouldn't be surprised. However if Chris Evans is the limit of your Cap knowledge, well then yes, this would be a big deal to you. But I think this is going to be really good for the character of Sam Wilson, The Falcon, as the character has been around for a long time and only now is getting some good spotlight. So a big thumbs up to that.
Iron Man: The fact that this one has not been spoiled completely makes this the most interesting of all the heroes at the moment. Everyone is assuming that Tony Stark will be taken over by something or someone, much like Spider-man was during the run of Superior Spider-man. So it will be interesting to see if Marvel is going to take this approach as well. But who knows, it could be anything or anyone under the armour, so only time will tell. I just hope this can stay a secret.
So there you have it, my take on the current news of the upcoming new bold direction by Marvel comics. I am a really big Marvel fan, it currently takes up 75% of my new comics and I can't wait to see what they do with these characters. Although the bigger question is, when are we going to get a new Young Avengers book? Well that is my question at least. But what are you guys thinking, do you like these changes or did you want to see something bigger and bolder? Let me know in the comments below. And remember to like and tell your friends about this little blog here, trying to expand here and all that. Until then, keep it tuned here and keep chasing the storm.

Devil on the Road...
I am huge Daredevil fan, have been since I remember getting into the comic book scene, I always loved his stories and anything Daredevil related. So looking back after reading up Daredevil: Road Warrior, I am left with a bit of a head scratcher in terms of how to review this book for you. So this was a digital only comic that made it's way to print and it follows Daredevil on the road from New York all the way to his new home in San Francisco. And sure travel is great and all if there's a story to be told, it's interesting to see how Matt Murdock's hyper senses react to planes, trains and auto mobiles. But all things considered, could I really recommended this book...?
Daredevil #0.1 or Daredevil: Road Warrior is written by the current series writer, Mark Waid, who is doing a great job so far with this new located man without fear. So the dialogue and the action all stays in the same flow as the current Marvel Now story. The art is done by Peter Krause, who while not Chris Samnee still is able to capture the same kind of feel and energy from each page. Taking the devil out of Hell's Kitchen doesn't bug me too much, it makes sense as to why it happened and it's a new challenge, can Daredevil exist in another location? I am sure some fans aren't too happy about the move in general, but I am open to new ideas and possibilities, especially if it means trying to find some new adventures and stories. So basically on a book creation kind of way, there is nothing wrong with this issues, if anything it holds up really well on the writing and panel work alone. My problem with the book is the existence of said book. At the end, I was left wondering what this story really told, how much does it matter to the current and past tales of Daredevil, what questions did it answer and is it really worth the cover price? And to these questions, I've got to say, it really doesn't do much of anything.
That's not to say that it's a bad book, it's just a story for the sake of being a story. It's fun and has some great fighting scenes and an interesting concept as well, that given more time and possibly more issues could have been something really cool to see. But as a stand alone issue that doesn't really get you anywhere in general, it's hard to really recommend to the everyday comic book fan. However if you are a huge Daredevil fan, then by all means complete the collection. It is a lot of fun, but those who aren't familiar with Waid's current run of Daredevil, you don't have much reason to pick it up.
So that's my take on this one shot sort of story, I woke up bright and early to do this one before I go to work. The summer is possibly going to change me into a morning guy, might try to do some morning jogs and workouts as well, make the most of my days. But I gotta go get ready, but I will be back with more comic book reviews and ChileanStorm news as the days go by, until then guys keep chasing the storm!

Wicked + Wicked
First off, a big thank you to my boy Toby for finding this book and getting it for me, you rock man! Give him a follow and check out his stuff over on his Tumblr page!
That being said, I finally got my smelly sweaty Latino fingers on this issue (it gets pretty hot here in the Toronto summer)! And if you know what the big buzz in the comic book world has been then you could probably guess, that I am talking about the latest project from Kieron Gillen and Jaime McKelvie, from Image comics, The Wicked + The Divine! I will admit, that when I just heard about this book and the concept, I got hyped. I was a really big fan of the latest run of Young Avengers by this incredible creative team, while it wasn't without a few rough edges, I really liked what they did with the new characters introduced into the team, like Miss America and Kid Loki. So naturally I couldn't wait to see what they would do here, in a world with young Gods who walk the Earth but only live for two years after they adapt their power. Live young, die fast. A very interesting topic, especially when dealing with teenage characters.
After giving it a read, I got to say, I am impressed. It feels that with these brand new characters and world, Kieron and McKelvie are able to be more free and creative with many of the elements and themes presented in the story. The first issue presents us this incredible concept in this world, but left me very curious and wondering about many of the elements and possible rules to all this, which is a good thing, I really can't wait to see what goes down in issue two. I don't want to give too much away as far as story goes, but I can tell you that it is worth picking up, believe the hype my friends! A more mature concept allows for some awesome page turning moments of "holy crap" and "that's fantastic". The flow of the entire book felt like it would be perfect to watch as a movie or an ongoing HBO kind of show, and here is hoping we do get to see that. And while I feel that a much older audience won't really understand this book and it's theme, the new generation of comic book fans who enjoyed Runways, Ultimate Spider-man and of course, Young Avengers, will no doubt love everything about this book. So if that is you and you haven't picked it up, go out and get it! Although a lot of the first run copies may be sold out, check out one of the second run that should be in stores soon. For those in the GTA still looking, try Gotham Central comics and Stadium Comics as well, I know Gotham will have copies of the Eh!Variant, done by the talented art warrior, Mike Rooth!
That's all the time I have for now, off to another day of work! Got a lot to do this week and this weekend, we got World Pride celebrations here in the city, I will be doing Jace Wars on Saturday, the World Cup is going into the next rounds, and I will also be kicking off July Well Spent over at Silver Snail! We don't stop, cause we can't stop. So I got to get out of here, but I will be back, be sure to plug and comment away on this and all my blogs, I will see you guys and gals later! Keep chasing the storm!

My Comic Pile...
There comes a time in every geeks life when he has to look down at the piles on the floor and at the boxes in the corner and say to himself, "holy crap, I've got a lot of comics to read!" And I do, like a lot of them. I was just organize a few that were out of my collection, bag and boarding a few loose comics as well, when I realized that I have a lot of books that I still need to read. Which isn't a bad thing, it's actually really cool when I think about it. One of my problems may stem from the fact that I want to get more comics and try to catch up with more current ongoing series. The life of a comic book geek. But I figure I have this floor to speak and well I guess I should use it to talk comics! More reviews and thoughts on all these amazing magical books that I have collected over the years. The only thing is though, part of me wants to cover the indy comics, give light to those who need and share my with you guys, help out friends here as well. But I really enjoy the big company books, like Marvel and DC Comics and hell even stuff from Image and Dark Horse. So the only question is, what do I first?
So I am going to start off with this bad boy that I just finished a few weeks ago, Earth X! From Marvel, by the incredible team of Alex Ross, Jim Krueger and John Paul Leon, Earth X is based in an alternative future for the Marvel universe, but with many elements ground in the early days of Marvel to help paint a creative and different kind of future. How different? Well for one, everyone on the planet has now gained some form of super power and/or mutation. So how good is a super hero when everyone is super? Powers never defined heroes in the first place though, and it shows us here very early on with Captain America. Literally wearing the red, white and blue across his chest, we see that Rogers is still fighting for that old world, but he is older and tired from all the wars, when does it stop? We see an older and fatter Spider-man, who has a daughter who has taken the mantle as city web swinger. We see the Inhumans, looking for a lost member of the royal family in a world much similar to their own. Everyone you know and love has been altered in some shape or form in this world, and everyone is trying to find their own explanation to all of this. All the while, Machine Man has been tasked by a blind Watcher to take up his role and be witness to what will happen next to this new Earth.
The imagination of this book alone is reason to check it out, but this story is absolutely incredible! The scale of things grows each chapter, and it always awesome to see what has happened to all our favourite Marvel heroes and villains! I can't believe it took me this long to finally get this book but I am glad I did! As a story, Earth X is one that gets you reading and reading, just to find out what's going on and to see what's going to happen next. That being said, while the art is strong, it's not the best looking book I have seen. The character designs by Ross are incredible though, I guess it would have been too much to ask to have him draw the entire book as well. But the art does work really well for the story, it never becomes a problem, a lot of great panel work and some incredible splash pages as well. All in all, it makes for an incredible epic that all comic book fans should take a look at, it's a reminder on why we love comics in the first place. I know the story continues in Paradise X and Universe X, but strictly as a stand alone book, Earth X should be part of everyone's collection.
So there you have it, my review on Earth X. I could go into depth on each issue and each character, behind the symbolisms of each characters design and purpose in this world, but it would take a whole blog for each character, not to mention massive massive spoilers to those who have yet to read it. But I also have a busy day ahead of me, going to be working late getting ready for Pride week and also going to be watching my team, Chile play against the Netherlands! I can't wait for that! Well let me know what you think of Earth X and what kind of book you want me to look at next, I've got tons to choose from, so comment below! Much love to you all, and keep chasing the storm.

A New York Storm of Mind... (Part 1)
Back and back again!
Holy cow guys, what an awesome weekend I just had. Granted my sleep and eating habits are something that needs more fixing especially after being on the road that long, and sleeping on a boat as well. But it was worth it, and I honestly can't wait to do it again! As always though, I got to give a big thank you to the great crowds that came out this weekend to Special Edition Comic Con, it would be nothing with out you guys. To my travel mates and brothers, Kevin, Vince and Joe. Or as we want to be known as, "The Beauty School Drop-outs". And to our fellow artist next to us in the Artist Alley, wicked getting to know even more and more talent in this big world. But on to the weekend and the many moments it had in store...
So it was two nights and three days, but it felt like a week there if not longer. Granted leaving on the Thursday evening and getting to New Jersey in the morning, my senses were all whacked. We did have some wicked breakfast omelette though, really good stuff and we did a walk of the marina as well to kill off sometime before we could move into our boat. When noon came we were able to get settled into our little boat house for the weekend, pretty sweet boat with internet, TV, fridge, two rooms as well. The bathroom was really small though, so we had to use the marina bathroom during our stay, but other than that it was an awesome time on our beauty boat. I got to relax and watch some Machete Kills, the drivers needed to get a few hours of sleep before we could go out and see the city. After a quick nap, we went off to the big apple to see some of the many sights in town, and also to see a certain World Cup game...cough Chile cough. And I guess with some luck we got washed by a massive rain storm (oh hey), so we had to seek shelter and it was almost game time anyway. I will probably write up a little something on La Roja a bit later, I don't want to take up time on that here, but if you must know...we won! So plenty to celebrate after the rain cleared, I even got to do a victory celebration with other Chileans in Time Square. But we got to see all the crazy big stores and enjoyed plenty of food that night, it was hard but we had the show the next morning, so we had to get back to the boat.
Up bright and early and rocking quite a bit, but hey that's a boat for you. We made our way across back to NYC and to the convention centre. After setting up shop and getting breakfast, I was ready to make some sales for my mentors and my brothers. It was an awesome and early crowd at the show on Saturday, some really cool cosplayers as well. I wanted to do some convention exploring but it got really busy with a lot of commission request early coming in and me doing all the print sales. I really hope a lot of you got to enjoy all the original artworks you got, I saw some really killer ones being done, from original characters to Daredevil and Deadpools. We even got the chance to help out in drawing on some blank shoes, a wicked idea for any kind of comicbook show. And hey, even I sold a few copies of the Adventure Time and Pokemon prints, so a big thank you New York, I hope to bring more Storm art next time!
And with that said I am going to make this a two part blog, helps cut the reading and what not, see you guys in part two! Keep chasing the storm!

Niagara Falls Comic Con came and went by in a flash, a big thank you to everyone who came by the table and picked up some art or some prints, this weekend would be nothing without you guys. And to my Spent Pencils team as well, you guys made a good weekend incredible. Plenty of sketching, selling and drawing all weekend long, but luckily it wasn't all work, there was plenty of play as well. From late night gaming with Mario Kart Double Dash to actually going to see the Falls this year, we totally missed that last time, I can't complain. And to top it all off, we got an awesome bbq from fellow SP artist and family, Oliver. A big thank you to you man and your family for having all of us there.
Want to give some shout outs to the people who came by and got a commission or one of my sketch covers (it's one of a kind and it's all yours now). I got to say it's a honour to meet you guys and to have that kind of love given back for me and my art, so a big thank you. To new followers and old followers alike, anything you need from me, you just ask away. Anything you want to see me draw, let me know. I wouldn't be here without you guys, so let the Storm know what he can create.
And what would a show be without a few pictures. A few amazing cosplayers and memories with friends as well...

Human Lizard Rules Toronto...
![]() |
Human-Lizard pin up by Jason Loo. |
A quick disclaimer before I begin this comic book review, that I will be reviewing this book based on my experience reading the book. I say this because as a Toronto artist and comic illustrator, I am so proud and happy to know Jason Loo. The fact that this book is in my hands and in the hands of plenty of others all across the country and the globe, well that is incredible. This is the kind of work I want to be able to do and to be able to reach as many as possible. We are both huge fans of Seven Lives Tacos as well, it is our bond. So that being said, time to let you guys know, what The Pitiful Human-Lizard is all about.
So the basic plot...
"The Pitiful Human-Lizard is a new comic book series created by cartoonist Jason Loo. The story follows corporate lackey Lucas Barrett who finds excitement outside his 9-to-5 job as a struggling superhero. The debut issue is a grounded underdog story that takes place in the city of Toronto. It's a new, comical approach on a superhero who is uniquely Canadian."
That is of course the most basic and spoiler free description of the book.
The book is just so much more then that though, with an amazing pace and page flow with the ability to make you laugh all the while delivering an incredibly classic comic book story. The different relationships that take place for Lucas/Human-Lizard is amazing, from stronger heroes to the locals of Toronto or his work or even his parents, the book shows all these different relationships and how he reacts with everyone. The progress of these relationships flow and change through the book, to being practical invisible to most all the way to being the next big hero for kids all over Toronto. The Human Lizard doesn't go from zero to hero completely though, and he still has a lot to learn himself, which gives the readers so much to look forward to in the next issues. And while Human Lizard is doing well, Lucas still hasn't landed a date or gained any kind of respect at work. Needless to say I am very interested in what's going to happen next.
I highly recommend this book to fans of independent and super hero comics alike, especially fans of Spider-man and The Spirit. And while Spider-man has died and come back to life, it's been a long time since I've gotten a good laugh with one of his books. Something that Human-Lizard was able to do plenty of times, from a late night brawl with a harmless hot dog vendor to the ring tone of the boss in Lucas department. And with plenty of different locations of Toronto used, it makes for an awesome back drop, with locations like the club district and the Royal Ontario Museum making an appearance, plenty of sights to see. Another thing to look forward to is where will the lizard be next.

With the amount of anticipation that I had for this book, I am so glad it delivered. It's been awhile since I've had fun reading a comic book, and it's great to know this is from a local Toronto talent. So to everyone in the GTA, go out and get this book at your local comic book store now, it is more then worthy to be part of your collection. Also be sure to stay tuned and like The Pitiful Human-Lizard Facebook Page as well to keep track of all Human-Lizard news, not to mention Jason Loo will be at many different locations signing copies of the book, so be sure to be there.
That's all the time I've got for today guys, be sure to follow and comment below here and let me know what you thought of The Pitiful Human-Lizard or give me suggestions on other great comic books that I should be taking a look at. I will try and do a book review atleast once a week, especially with Fan Expo coming at the end of the summer, it will let you know what books are worth your time and money. Thanks again for your time, and keep chasing the storm.
